The Big Apple
New York City (get a rope),
LOL- is the largest city in the United States. It is vibrant and hustling, busy
and loud.
It is a wonderful place to
wonder around and get lost. The honking horns and Times Square lights give the
city an electric and exciting atmosphere. The bagels and pizza are delicious everywhere
and most locals have their favorite spots.
I definitely suggest walking to
as many locations as you can – you will see so many things and stumble across personally
interesting finds. Try to get away from the guide books and Social Media suggestions.
Find your own points of interest – they are everywhere! The subway is a great
way to get around for great distances. They are efficient, safe, and clean
enough. Technology makes all things easier – with the tap of your apple watch (apple
pay) you are quickly through the turnstiles and onto your next destination.
While the MET, Central Park, and Empire
State Building are DO NOT MISS activities. My personal favorite was visiting the
Statue Of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Learning that the French
historian Laboulaye saw a need for the United States (that was going through
and navigating a new world after the abolition of slavery,) to help
such a young nation to unify and identify that all men are truly created
equally.
What an amazing gift and generous
spirit. This symbol of freedom – Lady Liberty was the first site of the new “America”,
a new home, a new life, a wonderful beginning that many immigrants saw as they
were on their way to be processed at Ellis Island. The museum at the island does
a wonderful job of telling the stories of the difficult journey and also of the
unbelievably resilient people that were determined to make it in the new land. Their
strife and grit affected me in the most positive way. Don’t ever give up, continue
to work hard, and find beauty in the people and things around you.
Travel is a blessing and gives us
the opportunity to step out of our element and learn new things. Looking
forward to the next adventure!
